It’s official. The final ever episode of Gavin & Stacey has been wrapped. Now, fans eagerly await Christmas Day 2025 to find out what writers James Corden and Ruth Jones have in store for Gavin, Stacey, Smithy Nessa, Pam, Mick, Gwen, Uncle Bryn and all the gang.

There has been much speculation on UK betting apps about which Gavin & Stacey cast members will be returning for the finale – and there’s a chance of some celebrity cameos, too.

There’s one thing we know for sure: it’s set to be an emotional ending to the beloved British sitcom. Alison Steadman, who plays Gavin’s (and arguably, the nation’s) mum, has said after filming the final scenes of the hit show that “90% of (the cast) were in tears“. Eek.

But, there are many loose ends to tie up in the finale. Will Smithy say yes to Nessa’s proposal that we saw in the cliffhanger episode in 2019? And will we ever find out what happened between Uncle Bryn and Jason on that infamous fishing trip?!

So, will Smithy accept the proposal and give the nation a Happily Ever After that we’ve always hoped to see? The odds are in…

Will Smithy accept Nessa’s proposal odds

Wedding bells are ringing

According to the betting sites, it’s looking likely (or at least hopeful) that Smithy will indeed say yes, with an odds of 1/3.

A big white wedding (no doubt with plenty of leather in true Nessa-style) would certainly be a heartwarming way to tie up the “will-they-won’t-they” storyline.

However, it’d be much more like Smithy’s character to once again turn Nessa down.

Another question on everyone’s lips is: will we ever finally find out what happened between Uncle Bryn and Jason on the mysterious fishing trip?! The bookies have an answer for this too…

Will the fishing trip secret be revealed odds

Uncle’s the word…

It’s been a running joke for the entire programme – and die-hard fans are desperately wondering if it’ll finally be revealed what happened on the fishing trip in the last episode.

First things first, it’s not yet confirmed as to whether or not Robert Wilfort (the actor who plays Jason) will be returning for the season finale – and without him, it may not feel right to reveal the fishing trip secret.

And even if we do get told – there’s been much debate as to what the secret actually is. Whilst some fans speculate that some kind of inappropriate romantic moment happened between the two characters, others predict it’ll be a silly, not-worth-being-a-secret reason that’ll have us rolling our eyes and bursting into laughter, in true Gavin & Stacey fashion.

But, it’s looking like the secret may be kept forever at an odds of 2/5.

Whilst fans are wondering whether classic characters like Jason and Smithy’s sister, Rudi (played by Sheridan Smith) will be returning to our screens this winter, there’s also been speculation about a special celebrity cameo.

Which Celebrities could make a cameo In the Gavin & Stacey finale odds

A Welsh reunion

If there’s to be any celebrity cameos in the Christmas Day finale, it’s natural to assume that they pick a famous Welsh face.

The Welsh singer Charlotte Church, who is a self-confessed fan, is in the lead at 4/9 to appear. This comes after the star telling the BBC that she would “die to be in Gavin and Stacey.” But, this was back in 2008, and priorities do change…

Also on the list is Welsh royalty, Sir Tom Jones. Though we’d absolutely love to see a starstruck Smithy and “Gavlar” perform It’s Not Unusual for the singer, it’d definitely be an unusual storyline. The bookies appear to agree, giving Jones a 8/1 to appear.

A Blunt performance

More likely to appear is English singer-songwriter, James Blunt, with an odds of 1/2.

A cameo would make much more sense, since the singer has just re-released his Back to Bedlam album (and a 2025 tour!) to mark it’s 20th anniversary. No stranger to a bit of fun promo, Blunt has recently pledged to legally change his name, should his album reach #1 in the charts once again – so an appearance on Gavin & Stacey would be a bit of fun for the singer indeed.

Plus, fans of the show will remember the scene where Uncle Bryn is driving Gwen in the car and sings a medley of James Blunt tunes, stating that he has a “cracking voice.” Perhaps everyone’s favourite uncle is set to meet his favourite artist this winter?

Corden’s connections

It’s fair to say that the writer and star, James Corden, has risen to significant fame since Gavin & Stacey first aired – particularly in the States – so it wouldn’t be a surprise if Corden turns to his impressive book of celebrity contacts to pull out an impressive cameo.

One of those celebrity friends is popstar, Harry Styles, at Evens. It’s well-known that Styles and Corden are good pals, and the singer has dabbled in the acting world, too (see Don’t Worry Darling, My Policeman and Dunkirk).

Former England footballer and captain, David Beckham, has also been pitted at 1/2 on betting sites with bonuses to make a special appearance.

Not only is he a household name, but Corden has worked with Beckham many times before – most often in the pursuit of a good laugh. Most recently, Corden pranked the football legend with a fake statue which aired on The Late Late Show with James Corden.

Before then, the pair worked together in a number of Sport Relief and Red Nose Day skits. The latter sketch also included the entire England football squad of 2009, some of which are also rumoured to be linking up for the grand finale including Rio Ferdinand 10/1, Peter Crouch 8/15 and Declan Rice 12/1.

Whatever happens in the series finale, it’s set to be a momentous episode and we can’t wait.

The final Gavin & Stacey episode will air on BBC One on Christmas Day.
